New! Busanga Plains, Kafue National Park, Zambia
Shumba Camp, Wilderness Safaris, Busanga Plains, Kafue National Park, Zambia - September 2026
The second part of our tour in Zambia took us to Busanga Plains in Kafue National Park. We stayed just 4 nights at Shumba Camp, which is located right in the middle of prime lion real estate. Kafue is a huge National Park, the largest in Zambia, and Busanga Plains is a very special part of it. Famous for its "flying lions", Busanga is a swampy area that even in the dry season still has many water channels that animals have to jump over to get about. This includes the lions, that have become quite adept (although not perfect as you will see!) at jumping over these channels. The area is home to huge herds of antelopes that thrive in these swampy areas - Red Lechwe and Puku. For the lions it is a superb habitat, as with so much prey about, there is a never-ending source of food!
My thanks to Safari Consultants for organising such a wonderful visit.
