Jaguars, Giant River Otters, Tapirs and Giant Anteaters in Brazil's Pantanal
This private tour to the Pantanal was planned to maximise our chances of seeing the spectacular wildlife of this region. Based on the experience of two previous visits, and working with Fred Tavares, our guide from Brasil Aventuras, we put together a comprehensive tour lasting nearly three weeks. In the Northern Pantanal, as we travelled down the highway, we visited Araras Ecolodge and the Mato Grosso Hotel. At Porto Jofre we stayed for six days at Hotel Pantanal Norte, where we based ourselves for the main Jaguar section of the trip. for the final segment we then flew to the Caiman Ecological Refuge in the Southern Pantanal, where we enjoyed superb Tapir and Giant Anteater sightings. On the way home we stopped off at the amazing Buraco del Araras, a massive sinkhole in which numerous Red and Green Macaws have made their home.
